THE HOMESTRETCH

I know I’ve been relatively silent on the airwaves over the past several weeks, and unfortunately, it wasn’t for an extended vacation. I have been totally immersed in The Ultimate Revenge. Due to the timely subject matter, my publisher David Dunham is eager to have the book ready for distribution in February. Now there are those dreaded deadlines looming. I’m proud to say that I met the first one on Saturday and turned over the first 27 chapters and the last two chapters. I admit at times there were moments as Charles Dickens described, “Prowling about the rooms, sitting down, getting up, stirring the fire, looking out the window, teasing my hair, sitting down to write, writing nothing, writing something and tearing it up…” Fortunately, there were few.

The next deadline—October 1. So I’m in the homestretch and in the next four weeks I will be writing six more chapters, Joe will be editing (if he has any red ink left), I will be making changes, and the both of us will be rereading, doubtless making more changes. And whenever I make significant changes, naturally, it requires another read—and the cycle continues. I hope Temple Grandin is correct when he said, “Pressure is calming to the nervous system.” But when all is said and done, it is my hope that you will find The Ultimate Revenge to be an explosive conclusion to “The Simon Trilogy”—I’ll keep you posted!
